Minister Hancock (Human Services); Minister Danyluk (MLA St. Paul/LLB and Transportation); Minister Horner (Deputy Premier and Treasury) along with our MLA, Genia Leskiw; and Mayor Copeland were in attendance. We had the opportunity to give an overview of the Centre services a tiny bit of history; the 2 floor project and the community involvement; our service area; and our advice to government.

These three individuals from Imperial Oil were Kelly Weibe, Greg Joevenazzo, and Kirsten Demeriez. They graciously donated their time to help paint a back wall that had graffiti on it, a new storage shed and remove graffiti from the side of our brick building. They worked for over four hours to improve the exterior of our new office space and we would like to thank each of them for their volunteer work. We would also like to thank United Way for this great program to allow businesses to volunteer staff hours to help other organizations with projects that they do not have the funds for. The building looks great and we are thankful for all those that participated.

A donation of $350,000 will allow the construction completion of the building add a new residential treatment centre for women with addictions, specializing in women who are pregnant.
The Lakeland Centre for FASD will host their Open House Friday, June 17, 2011 from 11:00am to 1:30pm at their new location 4823 50th Street, Cold Lake, Alberta. The Lakeland Centre was gifted a building by the Jericho Youth Society in April of 2010. Since then the Lakeland Centre has secured funding from a Community Facilities Enhancement Grant to renovate the main floor of the building for their central office. This building allows the LCFASD to expand services to the Lakeland region with the second floor dedicated to a residential Recovery Centre for Women. This Recovery Centre will specialize in pregnant women with alcohol and drug addictions to stay during their pregnancy.
The Lakeland Centre for FASD continues to provide leadership in the development of services in the Lakeland region for individuals with FASD and the prevention of the disability. The new Recovery Centre for Women will be the first of its kind in Alberta for women to stay for the duration of their pregnancy to receive help with their addictions as well as develop life skills. Operational support for the new Recovery Centre is provided from the Safe Communities Innovation Fund for a three year term of $1,011,000.00.
The LCFASD is excited to be working with Cenovus who is a company that reflect innovation and creative solutions to complex problems much like the LCFASD themselves. Cenovus’s generous donation of $350,000.00 will go towards completing the renovations Recovery Centre. This nine bed facility will house women and assist them to get their lives on track to have healthy children thus building a healthy Lakeland community.

This long term 9 bed facility is focused on pregnant women struggling with addicitions to keep them develop healthy lifestyles and have healthy children in the future. This will be achieved by developing new models of service delivery.

This program is currently seeing a Residential Manager who is motivated to work in a faciltiy that is doing something different and has experience working in an alcohol/drug treatment facility. Moving expenses will be available for the right candidate. Competitive salary with benefits and great working environment! Position will remain open until a suitable canidate is found.
