ABOUT US 

The 2nd Floor Women’s Recovery Centre is operated by the Lakeland Centre for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. We are a unique, 9-bed live-in addiction recovery program for women who are experiencing problematic substance use want to make a positive change in their lives.  

The 2nd Floor is a gender responsive program. Our mission at the 2nd Floor is to help women break the cycle of addiction and to reduce the number of babies born prenatally exposed to alcohol and other drugs in Alberta. Our program approach includes Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Practice, FASD Informed Practice, Strength-Based approach, Relational Theory and a Holistic view towards recovery.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Cultural Liaison is responsible for development and implementation of cultural programming.  The Cultural Liaison will facilitate three-hour sessions for 8 weeks to women attending the 2nd Floor Women’s Recovery Centre. Cultural sessions will include a combination of education and hands on practises. Topics and practises can include but are not limited to:

  • Ribbon Skirt Making
  • Beading, sewing mitts and moccasins.
  • Smudging
  • Cultural Foods
  • Traditional Parenting information and practises
  • Information sessions on MMIW, Truth & Reconciliation Day
  • Importance of story telling to pass on traditions
  • Importance of elders and maintaining language
  • Dance, drumming
  • Moss bags
  • Traditional medicine, herbs, and berry picking
  • Sweats
  • Grief and loss, traditional healing circles

The 2nd Floor Women’s Recovery Centre is a live in addictions treatment program exclusively for women. We use trauma informed practises to support our clients who face various substance use disorders as well as FASD and other mental health struggles.

Schedule: Sessions to be delivered weekly on Fridays.

Salary: Flat Rate of $1500- this includes prep time and delivery of 6 – 3hr sessions.  Materials required for sessions to be expensed with approval.
