The Mother’s To Be Mentorship Program
March 25, 2020 | In: General Information
In honour of our 20 year anniversary we wanted to share with you some of the amazing programs that we offer here at the Lakeland Centre for FASD. So every month we will highlight a new program starting with the Mothers to be Mentorship Program!
The Mother’s To Be Mentorship Program focuses on supporting women who are at risk of becoming pregnant, currently pregnant, or have recently given birth and are struggling with addictions. In my short time on the mentorship team I have already helped women do so many positive things. Like filling out applications for addiction recovery centers, as well as finding and applying for funding options for these women to be able to attend these recovery centers. We support our ladies while they navigate the children and family services world in addition to the justice system including securing legal representation if needed.
Even the seemingly easy and mundane things like making dentist appointments and eye exams or helping with taxes and waiting on hold with CRA– to the women we serve these supports can be life changing.
The mentorship program supports women in changing their lives, whatever that might look like for them, we give these women the support and the freedom to make their lives what they want it to be and help to navigate the world of different service providers in order to make these changes happen. Every one of our women have their own story, so our supporting role changes with each woman and each story. We have the flexibility to be to these women what they need at the time, whether it’s a strong-armed big sister, or a nurturing mother figure.
